Have you ever struggled with overwhelming thoughts of self doubt, that you are just not good enough, or that inner voice is alway judging things you do and blaming you? Well you are not alone. So try this exercise.

-Take a pen an describe what you see. In this video I say “this is a white marker, with a black top and a black bottom.” We can all agree on that. Now what would you think if I said “this is the best pen in the entire world?” Or if I said, “This is the most worthless pen in the entire world?” You, like nearly everyone else, would likes say “I don’t know about that!”

The difference is one was a description and one was a judgement or evaluation. So start to notice your thoughts and reactions to situations. Then start to try to see what is an evaluation. Then try to describe objectively what was going on. This can give you some distance from the thoughts and feelings wrapped up in the evaluations. And then when you have some distance, you can choose how much you want to buy into those evaluations and how much you want to just let them be and pass on by.
